Sourdough Bread - sandwich style |
Recipe Sourdough Sandwich Bread
It has the full-flavor of traditional sourdough bread, but cooking it in a loaf pan makes it soft and chewy like traditional sandwich breads.Shopping / Ingredient List
All Purpose or Bread Flour
Water
Sea Salt
Sourdough Starter
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees
Sourdough Sandwich Bread
In a large mixing bowl, combine:
1 1/2 cup warm (not hot) water
2 tsp sea salt
1 cup Sourdough Starter
3 1/2 cups flour
Mix thoroughly, turn out onto well floured counter and knead until smooth (about 7-10 minutes) add more flour while working the dough if needed.
Place back into bowl and cover with a towel. Let it sit overnight for about 12 hours or until it is at least doubled in size. (Kitchen conditions - warm, cold, etc. will affect rise time)
Shape dough into loaf shape, then place into loaf pan and let it rise for another 2-3 hours (until it almost reaches the top)
Place in preheated oven, cook for 42 minutes.
Remove from pan and let cool completely before slicing.
If you prefer the artisan-style loaf, simply form a "round" and place it on a baking sheet. When it doubles in size, place in 450 degree oven for 25 minutes.
